Karmelkorn Shop – 114 N. 8th St. – Ad from Tuesday, December 27, 1949. This store was located near Beerntsen’s Confectionery and had a proprietor named Oscar. My mother tells the story of her and friends going in there and saying, “Hey Oscar, What kind of ice cream you got?” Oscar would always say, “I got two kinds – plain white and vanilla”. Kreie’s Lunch – 1406 Washington St. This ad appeared in the Herald Times on Friday, January 8,1960. This business was located several doors west of Harold Hartwig’s bar (which was located in what is now the corner displaying the Pfeffer funeral home sign) on 14th & Washington St. Kreie’s lunch ran a series of funny ads in the 1960’s.
